Poem: Candle Eternal

Candle Eternal

The flame
enters our world
on the day you are born.

The wick of your presence
is then lit
and burns down deep
into the wax.

There is no promise made
upon how tall the candle is…
nor how long you will evade
the wax’s last drop.

The flame is never extinguished,
the candle, necessarily dense.
Melting wax, processions of karma
running off the table…
The wick will find it’s end.

Do not forget you are alight,
you were before you were here,
will be after your body is no more.

*Note-Jointly composed by myself (Charlie Morris) and my daughter (aged 9).
