New Poem: Pursuit

Pursuit

I gazed at my reflection
in the bedroom mirror
wondering how to find You.
You whispered from the window,
“pursue me
and find what you seek.”
I walked outside to look…

I glimpsed you in the high treetop
and a prayer for wings
sprang from my heart.
I flew to join you
but you had already gone.

From the valley below
I saw you on top of the mountain
all along the steep path
hope made my legs strong.
Yet as soon as I reached the summit
you became the wind.

I chased you into the sky
trusting you wished for me to follow
I leapt from the cliff
and I became a cloud,
drifting after you…so close.
But when I reached out to touch you,
you fell from the sky.

I saw you in the ocean blue
far so far below,
sadness at seeing you so distant
brought about my tears,
and I rained down into you
falling in surrender.

You were all around me then,
so much
that I could not tell
who was who,
faith found my center
and you became a person
running onto the shore
and into my house.

When I followed you fearlessly
my pursuit was over…
you had stepped inside of the bedroom mirror
so that when I looked
I could see that what I had pursued
was what I had become.

Reblogged this on The Stream of Life and commented:
I don’t often reblog articles, but today this poem spoke loud and clear to me. I remembered reading it almost two years ago, and the circumstances when I read it. But today, I feel this poem like it is being whispered to me from within my own ear, especially these lines:

    “When I followed you fearlessly
    my pursuit was over…
you had stepped inside of the bedroom mirror
    so that when I looked
I could see that what I had pursued
    was what I had become.”

I hope you enjoy reading this poetry and also find embodiment of all that you have pursued in a heartfelt way throughout your life.
