Poem: Only Just Begun

Only Just Begun

You swear

that you are making love

but the sheets

are not even damp.

You are sure

you can’t get higher

though you’ve never

glimpsed the ramp.

You tell me you are

fully blossomed

through rose bud lips.

You say it is

a dance

but never shake

those hips.

You walk across the bridge

hand’s  never once

playing and skittering along the rail

the way children’s do.

You look at the sky

and somehow see

yesterday’s blue.

Do you really think

that we’ve been here

long enough to know?

For how far we’ve come…

there is that much more to go.

We have only just begun.

    I LOVE this second stanza:

    You are sure
    you can’t get higher
    though you’ve never
    glimpsed the ramp.

    Wonderful writing!
