Poem: Protean You

The mind will never cease
hungering for more
no matter how much
it is fed.

The mind will never die
of starvation
no matter how little
it is given.

Spin on your toes
dance like a dream
flirt with the night
in unknown ways
like a tree branch
speaking to morning mist
like a leaf surrendering to the weight
of rain.
Life strikes your heart at an acute angle
and love
takes your pain
and rainbows it,
scattering you…
elysian you,
protean you
into equal parts
light and shadow,
feather and rock
heart and mind
here and elsewhere.

The mind will never die
for the sake of your harmony
so
for the sake of your harmony
give great thanks,
that it does not have to
for
your heart can never consume
enough love,
it will always be open to more,
and no matter how little it is given
it can never die.
