Poem: But First, the Wildfire

A feeling of safety when you are close to it

warmth that fills the whole body

light that is equally bright

and hot

enough to offer protection

from the dark

unknowns of the forest

sit in a circle

ten of you

and offer each

a different name for this fire at your feet

and

you will have ten different names

for God.

You can argue about how they are different.

Sit in a circle

ten of you

and offer each

a different name for this fire

when it is located within you

and

you will have ten different people

saying

“Love”.

No argument, just gratitude.

God outside of you is a fire

in the rain.

This tempest life

will drown your God

in its watery way of showing you

how to swim through flames

to the submerged heart

of authentic love.

Loving only all that is light and spirit

is warming your feet by a fire

and proclaiming “I am the Phoenix!”

Loving only what you like…

choosing only what feels good

and easy is the same as

standing ankle deep

on the shore of Mother Ocean

and exclaiming

“I can swim!”

And loving only what the mind

the tired programmed

mind

says

is like sitting in chains,

gazing upward and shouting,
“I fly free!”

Love is the only God

you need.

Love is

the only

God you are

were

born to be.

Let it be an immaculate flame,

let it sweep through

every single room

in your house.

Let no papery thought

desire, hate, disease

fear, joy, glee

remain untouched.

Love is found in the ashes of every

true and false idea

residing inside of you.

Preceding that discovery

must come wildfire.

A time of great orange and red

auscultation…

listen for the sound of love.

Sit in a circle

ten of you

and offer each

a different prayer to know God deeply inside

and

ten different people

will hear their God say

“Yes…but  first, the wildfire.”
