Poetry: Palisade and Flight

I traded the palisade
for the high parapet.

My daughter’s arm
loosed the falcon.

My son played
a red tailed hawk.

The albatross fell from my neck
when love ended a life of shipwreck.

When you tell me “I am all alone”
it is the same as telling me “I cannot speak”…

So many birds, have told me,
that they cannot fly
and though they had no wings…this was not,
the reason why.
