Poem: Remembered First

There has been time enough
for a lifetime of conclusions.

Castles glowered
from a frowning parapet
stained with soil blown
from half a world away.

Marching feet
cannot beat
down the cannonade
the remnant fodder
of ideas that time wears down
and births once more
as the promise of new.

Plato and Da Vinci…Galileo
didn’t see the shape, utility and distance
of what preceded them.
They were not the first.
They were the most recent.
The end of a long line of those who remembered first….again.
How soon til we forget?
