Poetry: Stop Counting

Why count the grains of sand
at the coast
when you will never,
in one lifetime,
or all lifetimes
ever
count them all?

Why?
Because we are human…
that’s why.
We just do things like that.
We keep track
of anchoring principles
to ratify faith in our
importance
weighed against the preponderance
of evidence that says
we don’t matter.
We keep track of who
is doing what.
We count our money.
We think about this
and that…and that
when we can’t sleep
or rather we don’t sleep
when we do think.

Go to the coast and start counting.
Bring friends.
Make it a contest.
The first person to laugh out loud wins.
