Poetry Repost: Famine Feasts

Here is “my” latest, penned on October 28th, 2010.  I wrote that on…well…October 28th 2010.  I just came across this today.  My blog shows what people read and what posts have most recently been read by visitors.  I was surprised to see this one.  I clicked on it to remind myself of what was there.  I couldn’t really remember.  As I read it, I recalled that when I wrote it, 4 years ago…that I honestly had no idea what it meant for me or to me, or for anyone at all.  It seemed like just a bunch of things falling out of me that made no sense really.  Reading it now, it totally does.  Thanks Charlie.  Nice one…

Famine Feasts

Sometimes blessings will come your way
and famine feasts
upon the carefully prepared meal
of your life
until nothing but crumbs populate
the emptied plate.

Who knew that careful preparation
would lead to separation?
You have been fed enough
of that for one lifetime…

Now, leave the table
and look out the window.

Behold,
the beast of burden
has fallen down in the field
and begun to daydream,
of greener pastures
of skies filled with stars
and of places that we all long
to visit.

Walk out the door
enter the field
offer him your heart
and he will offer you his dreams.

Let the long experiences of famine
guide you both to the feast…
